Pre & Post Care for Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau Injectable Treatments
Please follow these instructions for best results.
7 Days Before Your Treatment (to prevent bruising): AVOID blood thinning over-the-counter medications such as Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, and Aleve. Also avoid herbal supplements such as Garlic, Vitamin E, Turmeric, Ginko Biloba, St. John’s Wart, and Omega-3 Fish Oil.
3 Days Before Your Treatment: AVOID topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinols, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, or any “Anti-aging” products. Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal cream on the area to be treated.
24 Hours Before Your Treatment: AVOID alcoholic beverages and exercise (to limit risk of bruising).
Do not use Neurotoxins (BOTOX/DYSPORT/JEUVEAU) if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any of its ingredients (Dysport cannot be used with a Casein allergy), or suffer from any neurological disorders (i.e. ALS).
Day of Treatment
Notify your provider with any changes to your health history or medications (antibiotics, vitamins, supplement, etc) since your last appointment. This includes new autoimmune conditions, cancer treatments, recent vaccinations, and/or recent or upcoming dental procedures.
Please do not wear makeup on the day of treatment on the area being treated.
You may experience a mild amount of tenderness or stinging sensation following injection. This can last for a few hours up to a few days.
Redness and swelling are normal. Some localized bruising may be visible.
Tips for Decreasing Bruising
Consume fresh pineapple (contains the enzyme bromelain). Bromelain is a naturally occurring anti-inflammatory that can decrease swelling, tenderness, pain, and bruising.
Start OTC Vitamin C 1, 000 mg supplements 2x/day (AM and PM) 1 week before your appointment. This will help strengthen the walls of your blood vessels.
Consider starting OTC supplement Arnica the week of your appointment as it has been shown to decrease inflammation and bruising after treatment.
Try to gently exercise your treated muscles up to 1 hour after your treatment; practice frowning, raising your eyebrows and squinting. This helps the neurotoxin to work into your muscles. Although this is believed to help, it will not impact your treatment negatively if you forget.
You may apply ice or cold gel pack to the area(s) treated (avoiding pressure) as this helps reduce swelling and the potential for bruising.
You may shower and/or continue with other regular daily activities.
Be assured that any tiny bumps or marks will go away within a few hours after your treatment.
Please avoid applying makeup to the treated area until tomorrow.
Do not rub or massage the treated area for 24 hours after your treatment.
Do not do strenuous exercise for 24 hours post treatment. This will minimize the risk of raising your blood pressure and therefore, reduce the risk of temporary bruising.
Avoid facials or saunas for 24 hours after your treatment.
Do not lie flat or bend all the way over for 4 hours after your treatment. This prevents unnecessary pressure on the treated areas.
